The Riverdale Senior Center is a place that seniors can gather, share old friendships as well as make new ones. The center offers a variety of activities and classes. We are here to strengthen and help seniors have a good life and hopefully touch each senior's life for good.

FLU VACCINATION CLINIC SCHEDULED
The Flu Vaccination Clinic is scheduled for October 3rd from 10:00 a.m. to Noon at the Senior Center. The clinic is run by CNS (Community Nursing Services).
The following insurance plans are accepted: Aetna, Altius, Ameriben, Blue Cross, Direct Care Administrators, DMBA, Educator Mutual, United Health Care, GEHA, Meritain, PEHP, Select Health, UMR, United Health Care, University of Utah, Medicare Part B, and some Medicare Advantage plans. Insurance card must be presented at time of service. Without insurance the cost is $25 for a regular dose and $50 for a high dose. To participate you must sign up at the Senior Center beforehand.
Come to the Senior Center and celebrate the Halloween season with the following events:
- Oct. 28th - Cookie decorating at 11:30 a.m. hosted by Ali’s Angels.
- Oct. 29th - Paint a pumpkin from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Root beer floats will also be served courteous of Humana.
- Oct. 31st - Come dressed in your best Halloween costume. Prizes will be awarded during lunch.
FALL CRAFT SALE AT THE SENIOR CENTER
The Fall Craft Sale at the Senior Center begins October 15th. There are a variety of home-made items to buy for yourself or that will make a perfect gift. Stop by and take a look! Proceeds go to the Senior Center programs. We are still accepting donated crafted items to sell. If you have items that you can donate please drop them off at the Center.
HAND CRAFTED ITEMS NEEDED
The Senior Center is in need of hand crafted items for the annual Senior Center Craft Sale. If you have items that you can donate, please drop them off at the Center. The sale takes place at the Center from October to December.
CAREGIVER RESPITE SERVICE
Burch Creek Homecare and Hospice has collaborated with the Utah Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association to offer caregivers a needed break while providing quality socialization and cognitive activities for your loved one with Alzheimer’s or dementia at no cost. The service is offered at the Senior Center on the 2nd and 4th Friday each month 1:00-3:30 p.m. Activities may include, games, puzzles for brain exercise, crafts, discussion of current and past events and reminiscing. The respite program is completely free, it is asked that you give a call 24 hours in advance to pre-register at 801-452-6066.
VOLUNTEER TEACHERS NEEDED
The Senior Center is in need of volunteer teachers for our computer class and our fly tying class. If you can help please call Shawn at 801-621-6086.
CHANGE MADE FOR TAKE OUT MEALS
A change has been implemented for take out lunches at the Senior Center. Take out lunches are still offered at the Center but they will be served after all patrons who are eating in the dining room have been served. Lunch is served at the Senior Center each weekday at noon. The meals are prepared onsite by our own cooks and are offered for only $2.50 a meal. Stop by and enjoy a great lunch!

LEGAL CONSULTATIONS OFFERED AT THE CENTER
Seniors can sign up for a free legal consultations at the Senior Center. They are held on the third Thursday of each month with the next one taking place on May 16th. The service is offered by Attorney Jerald Engstrom. Seniors must sign up in advance at the Center or call 801-621-6086.
HELP NEEDED FOR PROJECTS
On Mondays, starting at 9:00 a.m., we need help working on our Primary Children's Hospital (puppets and dolls) and Navajo Santa (quilts) service projects. We are also working on our Fall Craft Fair projects. If you can lend a hand please come by and help us out!
FOOT CLINIC SCHEDULE
The Foot Clinic day is the second Thursday of every month at 9:30 a.m. The location has also been moved to the ceramics room. The cost for the clinic is $10.00.
SENIOR CENTER SCRAPBOOKING
An "on your own" scrapbooking group has been organized. It will meet on the second and fourth Tuesday's of the month at 9:30 a.m.. Come and join our group of scrapbookers.
SENIOR CENTER NEWS BRIEFS
- Wood Carving Class is held every Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. Come join them!
- Donations needed of bright colored buttons, 3/4 inch, with no shank.
- Chuck-A-Rama Senior Club Discount Cards available at the Senior Center for only $1.00 per card.
- Donations are needed of yarn for our humanitarian projects and fundraisers.
- A Call for players for Mahjong on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. and Bridge on Tuesdays/Thursdays at 12:30 p.m.
- The Lapidary Class is back is session, Wednesdays at 12:30 p.m.
- Come try Bunka (Japanese Embroidery) at the Senior Center every Wednesday at 12:30 p.m.
- Rug Hooking Class is the 1st Friday of the month at 9:30 a.m.
- On Your Own Scrapbooking is the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month. Come join us!
- Open Exercise Room at the Center. Equipment includes: treadmills, bikes, hand and leg weights, NuStep cross trainer.
- The Grief Support Group imeets the fourth Wednesday of the month at 10:30 a.m.

FOSTER GRANDPARENT PROGRAM
If you're 55 or older you can serve as a Foster Grandparent in an area school. The program has flexible hours and volunteers receive a small stipend. If you are interested in learning more, please call 801-625-3782.
HUMANITARIAN PROJECTS AT THE SENIOR CENTER
Riverdale Senior Center is known for all the Humanitarian Projects that are donated throughout the community. Many donations have been made to the Shriners Hospital including admission bags, meal tray covers, and lap quilts. Donations of lap quilts and chemo caps have also been made to McKay Dee and Ogden Regional Hospitals.
Our Humanitarian Workdays are on Mondays at 9:00 a.m. We need help cutting and sewing admission bags, meal tray covers, and lap quilts. Anyone interested in crocheting granny squares, afghans, and chemo hats can pick up yarn and patterns at the senior center. Donations of yarn and granny squares are also being accepted. Come play the Nintendo Wii at the Center. You can play tennis, golf, bowling, baseball, and boxing. We also have the Wii Fit!
MEDICAL INFORMATION DEVICE OFFERED
The Senior Center is offering an emergency personal medical information device for senior citizens and Riverdale residents. The device is a flash drive that contains a medical information template to record information to share with medical professionals in an emergency. The cost is $10.00 each. Stop by the Center or all 621-6086 to place your order.
Seeing all the materials around her, Linda Phaff decided to make an "Everyday quilt". The everyday quilt is made out of material scraps from many different patterns. It is a beautiful "Magic Quilt!"
