"Old Glory Days" Celebration 2010

"Thank you" to all those who worked hard to make our 2010 Old Glory Days a great success!

Our main celebration will be Saturday, July 3, 2010
(there will be no events held on Sunday, July 4th).

New this year will be a Tennis Tournament, Movie in the Park, and a Dutch Oven Cook-off. Details are listed below.

Sports Tournaments

Golf Tournament
Friday, July 2, 2010 will be our annual Golf Tournament held at Schneiter's Riverside Golf Course. This will be a four person scramble. The fee is $36.00 for 18 holes. Reserve your tee time by calling Schneiter's Golf at 801-399-4636.

Baby Contest
JUNE 28, 2010- If you have little ones, enter them in our annual Baby Contest! There will be two age groups and judging times - 6 to 13 months, 5:00 p.m. & 14 to 24 months, 6:00 p.m. Participation is free. Open to Riverdale children only (non-residents and businesses not eligible). Register online or at the Community Center.

Pumpers vs. Porkers Softball
JULY 2, 2010- Come and see our Police take on the Firefighters in a fun game of softball. The game takes place at the ball diamond next to the Community Center at 6:00 p.m.

New Movie in the Park
Bring the family to watch a movie in the park on Friday, July 2, 2010. It will be held in the lower area of Riverdale Park. The movie will be 'Monsters vs. Aliens'. The event is free. The show starts at dusk.

SATURDAY, JULY 3, 2010

Sunrise Service
Start the day off right by attending our annual Sunrise Service and Flag Raising Ceremony in Riverdale Park at the new amphitheater at 7:00 a.m.

Lions Club Breakfast
The most important meal of the day! From 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. the Lions Club will hold their annual fundraiser breakfast at the Riverdale Park bowery. The cost is $4.00 for adults and $2.00 for children under 12. All proceeds go to charity.

5K Run/Walk
Get your exercise in early by joining the 5K Run/Walk at the new Riverdale Elementary east parking lot, 1160 West 4400 South. Check in begins at 6:30 a.m. with the Walk starting at 7:15 a.m. and the Run starting at 7:30 a.m. T-shirts given to the first 300 who pre-register. Participants must pre-register. Forms are online or at the Community Center. No cost for residents, $5 for non-residents.

Old Glory Days Parade
Bicycle Decorating Event: Children can come decorate their bicycle the night before (July 2) at the upper Riverdale Park near the Community Center at 6:00 pm.

The 'Pedals & Paws' Children's Parade will begin at 9:00 a.m. Children are invited to ride a bike or walk a pet in the Riverdale Pedals & Paws Parade. Participants will gather at the corner of 700 West and 4400 South at 8:30 am. All pets must remain on a leash and be walked by a responsible person. Children 8 years and under must be accompanied by an adult. Please make arrangements to meet with your child immediately following the parade. Call 801-621-6084 for questions. No registration is needed to participate in the Children's Parade.

The Old Glory Days Parade begins at 9:30 a.m. The parade route will run west along 4400 South starting at 700 West going to Parker Drive and then north to Riverdale park.

New Dutch Oven Cook-off
This year we have added a Dutch Oven Cook-off! It will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the east end of the Community Center parking lot. The categories will be entrees, breads and desserts. Four teams can sign up under each category.

Booths
At 11:00 a.m. the booths will be open offering games, food, and fun. Bring the family and enjoy the day.

The Veterans Committee will be having a Fund Raiser for the new Veterans Memorial. There will be a basketball hoop for a basketball shoot and a raffle drawing for prizes.

Kids Games
Free children's games for ages 11 and under will be held in the upper park area from 11:00 a.m. to noon. There will be prizes and fun for all!

Watermelon Eating Contest
The watermelon eating contest begins at noon. If you would like to participate you need to pre-register online or at the Community Center before July 3rd. For those age 12 and older.

Entertainment
Entertainment has been lined up from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Fireworks Extravaganza
The perfect way to end a day of celebration! The city will set the night sky on fire with our annual fireworks display. The show will begin at dusk. Come early for a good spot!
