Outstanding Riverdale Citizen
I am very excited to honor as "Outstanding Riverdale Citizen" a man and his father for the wonderful service and example they are to our community. In 1960 and 1961 the father and son team of Ernie Schneiter Sr. and Jr. built the Riverside golf course on the Ralph Ritter farm property on South Weber Drive. It has been a beautiful fixture in the Riverdale City landscape since that time.

The course has been through many changes and the family has had to make many difficult decisions over the years. The freeway came through cutting the course in half in the '70's but, they found a way to make it playable and even better in many ways. In the mid '80's they bought more acres of ground and expanded to add to the playability of the course. They added an area for outdoor gatherings, including a putting course and bowery, in a beautiful setting. Most recently they have remodeled and expanded the clubhouse to make it more comfortable and functional. In the almost 50 years they have been part of our city they have been good neighbors and good citizens in every way. Ernie has never had a physical address in Riverdale outside of the golf course but all who know him know that he indeed "Lives in Riverdale."

A Great Guy and Great Family
Some of you may not know that Ernie Jr. has played on the PGA tour, including the U.S. Open, and that he won the Utah Open in 1966 at a time when many of the PGA tour players came to play the event. He was chosen the PGA Section Player of the Year and was inducted into the Utah Golf Hall of Fame in 2004 becoming the 1st father and son duo ever to be so honored (Ernie Sr. was inducted in 1991).

When UDOT came to us for ideas of things to represent Riverdale on the artwork on I-84 and Riverdale Road Bridge we all agreed the golf course had to be included. The way we chose to include it was with a silhouette of Ernie Schneiter Jr. in his beautiful golf swing.

I have also worked with our State Legislator Brad Dee to get permission to co-name South Weber Drive to honor the family. I appreciate his help with this and all he does to help our city. The new name that will be on the corner of 1150 West and South Weber Drive will include Ernie Schneiter Drive on top with the former South Weber Drive below. The announcement was made at the annual Business Appreciation Golf Tournament held at Riverside on May 1st. It will be finalized and in place very soon. Please take the time to stop by and thank Ernie, and all of his family and staff for being such a wonderful part of our community.

Mayor Bruce Burrows
