Join Riverdale City Police Department Community Camera Registry Program
Video evidence is one of the most powerful tools in modern police investigations. Footage from private businesses and residents frequently helps solve crimes. However, the process of locating and retrieving that footage can be slow and inefficient—taking valuable time away from active investigations.
To improve this process, the Riverdale Police Department is introducing a Community Camera Registry Program. This voluntary program allows residents and business owners to register their camera systems with the department, making it quicker and much easier for officers to identify potential sources of video evidence during an investigation.

How It Works
Without a registry, officers must manually canvass neighborhoods, looking for cameras and knocking on doors to request video—often long after the crime has occurred. With the Riverdale Police Departments Community Camera Registry, officers can simply refer to a secure internal map to see where cameras have been registered and reach out directly to the owner when an incident happens nearby.
This dramatically reduces the time it takes to obtain video evidence, allowing investigators to act faster and devote more time to solving cases.

A Collaborative Approach to Public Safety
The Community Camera Registry is built on voluntary participation. When you register, you’re not giving the police access to your live camera feed or any automatic control over your system. Instead, you're simply agreeing to be contacted if a crime occurs near your camera’s location.
This program fosters a collaborative relationship between the Riverdale Police Department and the community. It empowers residents and business owners to contribute to public safety and crime prevention in their neighborhoods. Working together builds trust, strengthens community ties, and improves response efforts.
