Air Force Offers New Indoor Air Sampling Option to Residents, Businesses
The Air Force is launching its annual outreach campaign to homes and businesses located near areas of groundwater contamination from Hill Air Force Base (AFB). Those affected will receive a packet in the mail offering free indoor air sampling to determine if potentially harmful vapors from the groundwater could be entering homes or workplaces. New to last year’s program is the resident-placed sampling option, which allows residents to place the sampling device themselves without having a sampling technician enter the home. The sampling technician will provide residents with the necessary sampling equipment right at their doorstep, along with easy-to-follow instructions for the sampling procedure. If the conventional sampling approach is preferred, the expert sampling technicians are still available to place the sampling devices for you.
Sampling is scheduled to begin in October and will continue through March 2025. If the test indicates the presence of chemical vapors associated with Hill AFB above established action levels, the Air Force will take action to prevent these vapors from entering the home or building at no cost to homeowners. The city drinking water has not been affected by the contamination, as it comes from much deeper groundwater aquifers and mountain sources.
If you receive the Air Force’s outreach letter, you are in an area of concern and are eligible for free indoor air sampling. Everyone that receives a packet is encouraged to take advantage of this offer. If you do not receive a letter, your home or business is not within an area of concern. For detailed information, including maps of eligible areas and more details about the new resident-placed sampling option, please visit www.hill.af.mil/IAP. Please call 801-775-3651 or 801-586-2194 if you have any questions about Hill AFB’s indoor air sampling program.
